Can a larger hopper improve feed rate?

Not by itself. Overfilling can make orientation less stable. Hopper capacity and refill control should maintain a suitable bowl loading condition.

How is refill interval calculated?

Use verified component bulk density and the real line demand, then allow for operating variation and the usable rather than gross hopper volume.

Is a hopper needed for every bowl feeder?

No. It depends on required autonomy, part quantity, operator refill frequency and how sensitive the bowl is to loading changes.
