Who owns the final transfer between the feeder and the machine?

Ownership should be agreed explicitly. One supplier may provide the chute or escapement while another provides the pickup head, nest or controls. A shared interface drawing and signal list should state the physical boundary, datum, release command and acceptance responsibility.

When is an escapement needed instead of a simple chute?

An escapement is usually considered when the process needs a single controlled part, defined spacing, timed release or isolation from queue pressure. A simple chute may be sufficient where gravity flow is stable and the receiving machine can manage the leading part reliably.

Why should the discharge datum be measured from a fixed machine reference?
